From the Collection of the late Charles Wood Chatham, Sr., Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, de Voll was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. In the 1890s, he studied under William Merritt Chase, Charles Hawthorne and Robert Henri. While traveling across Europe and England, de Voll studied with Jean Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian in Paris.

De Voll was well known for his unique pointillist scenes of Providence and New York City. He exhibited frequently, showing works at the Providence Art Club, Mystic Art Association in Connecticut, the National Academy of Design in New York, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the Salmagundi Club in New York, the Delgado Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Gibbs Museum in Charleston, South Carolina.
