Jean-Jacques de Langhe was born in Ypres, Belgium and died in Lille, France. He studied with Belgian Neoclassical painter, François-Joseph Navez. In 1829, de Langhe exhibited a portrait of the King Willem I of the Netherlands at the Salon in Ghent. He earned additional commissions from prominent sitters, drawn to his talents in detailing opulent interiors and dress in a grand scale.
