Royal Robertson, visionary artist and self-proclaimed prophet, was born, lived and died in Louisiana. As a young man, he worked as a sign painter and field hand. After the breakdown of his marriage, Robertson began painting "visions" - which drew heavily from television, comic book imagery, science fiction tales, advertising and other mass media sources. These images were coupled with fierce and foreboding messages drawn from evangelical Biblical stories mixed with Robertson's own personal beliefs.

Prophet Royal Robertson's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and held is several prominent public collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.; the American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland; and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Fading to colors; pinholes to edges (as made); not examined out of the frame.
