Willie Nash was born in Asheville, North Carolina. After four years of service in the U.S. Air Force, he enrolled at N.C. Central University in Durham and graduated with a B.A. in fine arts. He worked as a sign painter, an art teacher at NCCU, an arts administrator for the North Carolina Cultural Arts Coalition, and as an illustrator for Duke Medical Center.

Nash was dedicated to depicting the African-American presence in America in a positive light. Three themes dominate his paintings: African-Americans in historic settings, particularly those of western migration; African-Americans in everyday settings; and series of "Civilization" paintings featuring mythic renderings of the black role in civilization's development.

Good estate condition.
