Pennsylvania-born Abstract Expressionist artist Charles Schucker attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He spent time in Chicago working for the Works Progress Administration and later moved to Brooklyn Heights, New York, teaching at New York University City College and from 1956 to 1985, the Pratt Institute.

In New York, his style became increasingly abstract. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1953. From 1946 to 1978, he had solo shows at Macbeth Gallery, the Howard Wise Gallery, and in 1971 a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Some craquelure and flaking, areas of grime and minor staining, some toning to canvas.
