George Kachergis was born in Connecticut and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1949, he accepted a teaching position in the Art Department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he excelled as a senior painting professor.

Kachergis exhibited extensively throughout his career. His work was included in annual exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy, the Art Institute of Chicago, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Two paintings by Kachergis are in the permanent collection of the North Carolina Museum of Art.

Some flaking to white acrylic paint, areas where paint is unstable, some overall grime, minor abrasion with associated losses at edges, some minor surface scratches.
