Circa 1900, walnut and figured walnut veneer, oak and pine secondary, shaped top with banded inlay, dual hinged lid featuring banded inlay to the upper section with single gate-leg support, the lower surface lifts to reveal an open compartment with red paint, the flush skirt with Chinoiserie painted vignettes raised on four cabriole legs with bellflower carved knee on pad feet, stamped Made in England to underside fly rail.

A nice antique diminutive form; rare to find as a matched pair.

One top with veneer chip at back left corner; the other top with veneer patches to rear edge; scattered paint chipping and yellowing to painted vignettes; some tight veneer shrinkage; one skirt with repair at center of skirt below escutcheon; some insect damage to secondary woods and legs.
