19th century, the first an English lacquer box, lid with hand-painted pastoral landscape scene, gilt pattern on all but underside (8 in. wide); the second likely Anglo-Indian, wood and bone box raised on four paw feet, with applied openwork floral and foliate panels, inlaid bone trim including some with black painted patterns, and beading, hinged lid with center scene of a horse in a landscape, with clover escutcheon (3 3/4 x 4 1/2 in.).

Lacquer box with overall age wear including scratching, small dents, wear to gilding, several corners rubbed, overall crackling; (1) mark on side of lid; light residue on interior. Wood and bone box with loose decoration on two sides, several areas with loss of applied decoration; residue, especially to lid and interior; one corner with small chip; dry cracking to lid interior and underside, interior with large crack across the bottom; sticker on underside; lacking key.
