Lot 1251
A French Grand Tour Bronze Model of the Vendome Column
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
19th century, patinated bronze, after the early 19th century design by Denon, Gondouin and Lepère in the place Vendome, France, mounted atop a slate base, unmarked.

18 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 in.

From the Estate of the late International Interior Designer Terry Parsons, Pittsboro, North Carolina

Inspired by Trajan's column in Rome, the 44 meter high column was placed in the center of the place Vendôme and was dedicated to the soldiers of the battle of Austerlitz. Cast in bronze from 1200 cannons seized from the Russian and Austrian armies, it is decorated in classical style with bas reliefs representing trophies.

Overall good estate condition; some edge chips to slate base; some areas of rubbing to the patina; some minor mis-shaping to lower fence.
