Figurative artist Stanley Bleifeld was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He received a Master's degree in painting from Temple University in 1949. A visit to Italy and exposure to the bronzes of Donatello, Michelangelo, and Ghiberti in the 60s shifted his artistic direction toward sculpture. Life Magazine featured Bleifeld early in his career, when his work reflected interest in religious subjects, gestural forms, and ruinous classical landscapes. He later turned to more sports-related themes in bronze.

Bleifeld maintained a studio in Pietrasanta, Italy for a number of years. The Lot being offered was cast in Pietrasanta at Fonderia Luigi Tommasi. Some important highlights in his career include the Vatican Pavilion Bas Relief at the 1964 World’s Fair, The Lone Sailor at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, several statues at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and The Virginia Civil Rights Memorial.

He became President of the National Sculpture Society (1991-1993) and was also a visiting artist and instructor at venues such as the Scottsdale Artists School in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Some surface dust and light verdigris to interstices; edge chips and marks to stone terrace, otherwise good estate condition.
