After surviving the 1988 earthquake in his birthplace of Gyumri, Armenia, Marat Margarian "turned his struggle into passion for life", reflecting his emotions into art.

Margarian studied at the Panos Terlemezian Arts College in Yerevan, the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts, and is a member of the Artist's Union of Armenia.
