Attributed to Mordecai Collins (1785-1864), Davidson County, 1810-17, poplar secondary, dovetailed case, two board rectangular top, four graduated cock beaded drawers, distinctive alternating light/dark wood edge inlay to top, side case corners and drawers, triple line inlaid band at base, shaped French bracket feet, scalloped side panels.

Distinctive Swisegood shop form and inlay characteristics retaining original feet and an old warm mellow patina. A very similar example can be found in MESDA's publication "The Swisegood School of Cabinet Making", 8 Chest of Drawers, Accession: 1065-3. The straight pattern barber pole inlay and the beveled edge to the drawer's secondary edges are hallmarks of Collins' cabinetmaking.

Top reset and with dark staining and wear; two drawer runners rebuilt and later drawers guides; three locks missing; later pulls; bottom three drawers with cut and patch at escutcheon; later inlaid escutcheons.
