The first a cross-stitched sampler featuring multiple alpha-numeric rows separated by decorative zig zag lines, above proverb: "Wisdom is better than riches / therefore get wisdom..." and signed and dated "Annie Robertson / 1890" to bottom, with rosette border, framed under glass, old frame with antique advertisement pasted to verso (major discoloration, fading, and mis-shaping to fabric, loss to frame) (framed dimensions 14.75 x 18.25 in.); the second a cross-stitched sampler with various pictoral motifs including cardinal, basket of flowers, cat, house, parrot, pine trees, boat, toy soldier, flag, heart, clover, butterfly, and boat, surrounding a verse: "Houses are made / of brick and stone / But homes are made / of love alone" within rosette border with alphabet at top and initials "IMF" in a wreath to lower center, dated 1951, in wooden frame with glass (discoloration to base fabric, wear to frame, otherwise good estate condition) (17 x 17.5 in.).
