The first is an oil on canvas (lined), unsigned, depicting figures in early 17th century dress and setting, a young girl seated before an older man in armor and examining an engraving, unframed (stretcher size 22 x 18 in.) (original canvas has been cut and laid down on later canvas and stretcher; numerous repaired tears and some loss to canvas; extensive retouch visible under UV light; fair condition); the second is oil on canvas, depicting a raucous tavern scene with soldiers and a young woman, indistinct signature at lower left, unframed (Stretcher size 18 x 22 in.) (darkened varnish with heavy craquerlure; surface grime; paint loss to edges of canvas, small punctures with associated paint loss in lower right corner).
