Born in French Guiana, Africa, Lareuse began painting at a young age. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Galerie Ariel, Paris in 1948, at the Galerie Drouant-David, Paris in 1952, and has participated in group shows at Biennale de Menton and the Salon d'Automne, among others.

He was awarded the First Prize of the President of the French Republic in 1955. His paintings are owned by several museums including the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and he is represented in private collections in the United States.
