Stretcher size 39 x 32 1/2 in. Frame dimensions 44 3/4 x 38 in.
Private Collection, South Carolina This painting is after a portrait of King Charles II painted by Adriaen Hanneman while the Prince was in exile in Holland circa 1648. A seventeenth-century version of this work is currently housed in the National Portrait Gallery, London, and a miniature example can be found in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The whereabouts of the original work are unknown.
The painting has an old lining, several areas of repair with associated retouching visible under UV light inspection, scattered retouching to hands, face, and background; frame with age cracking and losses.
