Oil on canvas (lined), signed at upper right, presented in a molded wood frame with gilt accents.

Stretcher size 30 1/4 x 25 in. Frame dimensions 39 1/2 x 34 1/2 in.

Joseph H. Boston was born in 1860 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and began early training at the National Academy of Design School. He spent much of his career in New York, where he was a member of the National Academy of Design, Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, and the National Arts Club. He was an instructor at the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences and was a member of the artist group called “The Brooklyn Ten” later called “The Society of Brooklyn Painters” who developed the Brooklyn New School of Art.

Age cracking, painting has undergone professional restoration including a lining, retouching, and protective varnish; very minor fleabite losses.
