Serial number 1420 on the top tang, 28 in. blued octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight, the top flat marked WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN, CT. / KING'S IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED - MARCH 29, 1866, set trigger, walnut stock and forend, original crescent trapdoor buttplate.

Introduced as the “Centennial Rifle” in 1876, the Model 1876 was basically a larger-framed, more powerful version of the Model 1873. The Model 1876 was discontinued in 1898, after 63,871 guns had been produced. This rifle is from the first year of production, serial number 1420 of 1429.

Overall very good estate condition, some oxidation to buttplate and receiver.
