Circa 1810, watercolor on ivory, unsigned, the blue-eyed sitter with "coup au vent" hair and handsome visage, set against a cloud-filled background with peeks of blue sky, attired in white shirt with stock collar and tied cravat beneath a blue velvet jacket, presented in a fine 9K gold locket (unmarked, XRF tested) with beaded surround, glazed aperture to verso is vacant.

3 1/4 x 2 5/8 in.; painting 2 5/8 x 2 1/8 in.

The background sky's angled hachure transitioning to cross-hatching toward the lower areas, fine tonal rendering of face, and subtlety in the treatment of the garments, are all distinctive characteristics of Trott's painting manner.
