Early 20th century, watercolor on ivory, signed to lower right, depicting unidentified twin sisters or two versions of the same sitter, set against an atmospheric landscape, mounted behind glass within matching gilt lockets.

Locket 4 3/8 x 3 in.; sight size 3 1/4 x 2 1/2 in.

Collection of a Gentleman

A native of England, C. Chandler Ross studied art in Paris and Munich, and under Swedish master, Anders Zorn. He was active as a portrait artist in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and New York City, painting many of the captains of industry during the first half of the 20th Century, including F. W. Woolworth of the store chain, and also produced portraits of senators, governors, and presidents such as Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. In Ridgefield, Connecticut he built the Peaceable Street house in 1940, which later became the center of Ward Acres and home of philanthropist and horseman Jack Boyd Ward.

Good estate condition; some minor wear and rubbing lockets; one painting with discoloration to upper right background.
