Second quarter 19th century, watercolor on ivory, unsigned, the first of a dark-haired woman with bejeweled tiara and necklace, wearing a purple dress on a blue ground, presented behind beveled glass in a gilt rectangular locket, with classical figural eglomise panel en verso (frame 2 1/8 x 1 5/8 in.); the second of a dark-haired woman wearing a tall hat on mauve ground, identified via the ink inscription to verso backing as Marie Benoit / Epouse de Jean Hostin (?) / morte en 1840 / a lage de 59 ano, presented in a rectangular locket frame (frame 2 5/8 in. x 1 7/8 in.).
