From the Collection of Professor Roberto Severino, Washington, D.C. Dr. Robert Plot (England, 1640-1696) was an Oxford University-educated professor, and the Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum.
The Natural History of Oxford-Shire was first published in 1677, followed by a re-issue the same year, and then the second edition in 1705. It discusses the earth, stones, plants, animals (which he called brutes), and more, in that community.
Boards with light edgewear and occasional mark or stain, darkening at edges and spine, with spine lightly rubbed, mostly at head, tear at top edge and head of spine; bookplate on paste-down; repair to front flyleaf, preliminaries seemingly bound in separately and reinforced, one page with a small possible repair; pages with mostly light toning throughout, occasional finger grime, small stain or tear, manuscript, or foxing; small wormhole at inner margin impacting several leaves; damp staining fairly frequent but concentrated at beginning and end of the volume, one page with small margin loss; most pages very clean and crisp, unfortunately, this volume lacking map and most plates (retains (4)).
