Minnie Evans was the longtime gatekeeper at Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, North Carolina. A self-taught artist, her paintings are in numerous prominent collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, Williamsburg, Virginia, the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, North Carolina, the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and many more.
