The "Grand Manner" portrait was popularized especially by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The sitter was to be depicted in settings and with accessories conveying their dignified and elevated status.

Both portraits depict the sitters in full length, standing in romantic landscapes. The lady wears a fashionable cornflower blue Empire gown with lace trim and is depicted resting one arm atop a classical pedestal draped in a flowering vine. The gentleman stands at attention within a slightly more wild and expansive landscape. He wears a stylish dress coat with the requisite gold fobs at his waist while holding a cane in his proper right hand.

The female portrait with a scratch through center, each with separation to the center of panel with associated retouching, slight warping to panels, light scattered retouching visible under UV light inspection; frames with some general wear.
