Nikolai Nikolayevich Volodimirov was born in St. Petersburg and was a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists. He studied at the studio of the Academy of Arts of Russia, and, in 1930, he joined the faculty of the Institute of Proletarian Fine Art. From 1946 to 1955 he taught at the Higher Art and Industrial College.

From 1940 and after, Volodimirov participated in exhibitions in Leningrad, painting genre and historical compositions, portraits, and landscapes.
