Born in Caswell County, Maud Gatewood is one of North Carolina's most recognizable artists. After earning her fine arts degree from Woman's College (now UNC-Greensboro), and her master's from Ohio State, she traveled to Austria on a Fulbright grant to study under Oskar Kokoschka. Upon her return, she shaped up the UNC-Charlotte art program until 1973 when she moved back to Caswell County. She continued to paint, and while North Carolina was her home, she traveled - always with an eye for transferring her visions and experiences to canvas.

A tear at right edge, toning at each side, not examined out of the frame.
