Sir Robert Howard (England, 1626-1698) was a politician and writer. He wrote numerous popular plays such as
The Committee and
The Indian Queen (the latter he wrote with John Dryden), and was associated with Theatre Royal (Drury Lane) in the West End.
George Bayntun founded his bookbinding firm in Bath, England in 1894 which quickly became known for its finely crafted leather bindings. Bayntun merged with the Rivière bindery in 1939.
Very light scuffs to boards with mark on lower edge; light grime at endpapers, frontispiece and title extended, with tears, light fraying, chipping, and small repairs; pages moderately to heavily toned with fraying, light to heavy foxing and spotting, frequent repairs and damp stains, infrequent edge chip or tear, and occasional grime or small mark; (2) leaves with slightly larger loss(es) at margin not impacting text, one page with small hole and writing, tiny worm trail on several leaves, final page with early writing.
