The Contemporary Art Collection of Francine & Benson Pilloff, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Gift of the Artist, December 2005.

Born and raised in rural North Carolina, Louis St. Lewis fashioned himself into one of the state's most recognizable visual artists. St. Lewis' work may be found in numerous private and public collections, including the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the New Orleans Museum of Art, both in New Orleans; and the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

When St. Lewis passed away in 2021, Bradley Sumrall, Curator of the Collection at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, perfectly captured the spirit of St. Lewis in this quote from the obituary:
"With a Warholian melding of persona and practice, Louis St. Lewis activated spaces around the world with his bold, lush and seductive work. Blurring the lines between fashion and fine art, his art vibrates with a highly original aesthetic -- deeply Southern and filled with art historical reference. With his passing the art world has lost its Postmodern Prince of Southern Gothic Pop."

Good estate condition.
