1820, watercolor on ivory, the elegantly dressed sitter attired in voluminous black and white gown is seated with book nearby, hair worn curled with fancy conforming lacework hat, finely rendered against a bold orange ground. Presented in a restored frame and retaining fragments of original card inscribed with artist signature, date and sitter's name; also retaining a calling card for known frame maker, restorer, and dealer Richard Aldworth Bournemouth.

Portrait miniature artist Charles Foot Tayler was active on the Isle of Wight and in Bath, England, and known for his accurate depictions of his sitters. Taylor was born at Newport on the Isle of Wight and had at least two brothers, Daniel (1787–1840) and Edward (1804–1869), both known from his paintings of them. He married twice and fathered four children.
He exhibited 'A portrait of Mr E. Tayler' at the Royal Academy in 1820, and exhibited other works there until the year of his death. His works can be found in prestigious private and museum collections including the Victoria Albert Museum.
Later framing and laid on later black card; some cracks and later gilt to frame.
