British Pattern 1853 Enfield Percussion Musket

Mid 19th century, 39 in. round barrel with fixed front sight, receiver marked 1854 / TOWER with VR beneath crown proof, full walnut stock with LOTTON cartouche on left side above trigger, three screw style bands, brass trigger guard and buttplate, ramrod with slotted and threaded head.

A key musket used by British and colonial forces in the mid-19th century. Manufactured by the Tower of London armories and private contractors, it featured a .577 caliber bore and used the Minié ball for improved accuracy and range. This musket saw extensive use during the Crimean War (1853–1856) and the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The Tower-marked versions are notable for their historical significance and association with British imperial military supply during the era. It was eventually replaced by breech-loading rifles in the 1860s.

Overall good estate condition, working action, barrel and receiver have oxidation pitting, surface scratches and finish wear, wood has field marks from age and use, missing wood over right shoulder of stock, bore has oxidation.
