SETTLE with front horn blade sight and fixed rear sight, full maple stock with set triggers, brass trigger guard, buttstock and ramrod sleeves, raised cheek piece, eleven silver inlays, wooden ram rod, correspondence letter from R.A. Busby, Smithfield, N.C. to Tom Strohfeldt, Williamsburg, VA. with additional information about rifle with historical context.

Simon Settle, born in 1823, was a prominent gunsmith from Greensburg, Kentucky, active primarily in the mid-19th century. He specialized in crafting percussion long rifles, a popular firearm technology that gained prominence in the 1830s. Settle's rifles were known for their plain half-stock designs, typically made from curly maple wood, and lacked patchboxes. After the Civil War, Settle relocated to Rowletts, Kentucky, where he continued his craft until his death in 1871.

Overall good estate condition, working action, ferrous metals have oxidation and finish wear, stock has field marks from age and use, working repair to stock at toe, bore has oxidation with good to strong rifling.
