These firearms were produced with a percussion lock system and the first to be fully machine-made with interchangeable parts. Manufactured at the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories from 1844 to 1855, it marked a significant technological advancement over earlier flintlock models. Used extensively during the Mexican-American War and the early stages of the Civil War. Some were later rifled to improve accuracy, demonstrating its adaptability in the evolving landscape of 19th-century warfare.

Overall good estate condition, ferrous metals have oxidation and finish wear, stock has field marks from age and use, front barrel band is loose, firing nipple is missing.
