These muskets were a late-stage percussion firearm produced during the American Civil War era, though primarily intended for British military and colonial use. Manufactured at the Tower of London Armouries, it retained the percussion cap ignition system despite rifled firearms like the Enfield Pattern 1853 becoming more prevalent. These muskets often found use in auxiliary roles or by colonial forces before being fully retired from British service.
