Both are addressed to Mrs. Sally A. Hamilton of Williamsboro, NC, a small community very near the Virginia line. The first letter, dated Feb. 1st, 1864, is from brother George H. Terry, 4th Virginia Regiment, Wise's Brigade, then at Camp Toogoodoo, South Carolina, where he is tired of "quite a dull time" and work on fortifications. The second letter is from Mary J. Whimbush of Boydton, Virginia and is decidedly more poignant as it mentions "poor, dear Frank whose life was truly sacrificed on the alter of his country."

These fine letters are associated with Long Grass Plantation, the Terry home on the Virginia/North Carolina border.

Some staining to the letters; the covers with stains and overall browning.
