Circa 1780, the first with scalloped crest rail and pronounced ear, pierced vasiform back-splat, molded shoe, flush molded seat rail with through tenon at rear stile, upholstered slip seat, front cabriole legs with trifid foot (38.5 x 22 x 19.5 in.); the second chair with shaped crest rail, triple pierced back splat, molded shoe, flush molded seat rail, through tenon construction rear of stile, slip cushion seat, front cabriole legs with carved trifid foot (39 x 23.75 x 20.5 in.).
From the Collection of the late Morton Thalhimer, Jr., Richmond, Virginia The first: tight break right rear leg below seat rail; break and repair front left leg to underside of knee; front left trifid foot pad with split but reattached. The second: later knee returns; front left leg with hairline crack at knee; retains faded paper label to interior rail.
