Italian sculptor, Antonio Caniporoli, established a studio in Carrara, Italy, which was active from the mid-19th century to early part of the 20th century. He is known for carved marble statuary of religious figures, as well as Neoclassical and ecclesiastic architectural elements, and funeral monuments. His studio had reach within Italy, such as the city cemetery in Palermo, but also further afield, including Spain and Ireland, where his studio executed the high altar at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Derrynacash Road, Craigavon, Co. Armagh. In Savannah, Georgia, the Laurel Grove Cemetery has a funerary monument for Louisa Porter (1807-1888) that was sculpted by Caniparoli.

Some chipping along base edges; scythe blade and wheat plume in left hand with some old areas of repair.
