A Patinated Bronze Model of Demosthenes, cast by Ferdinand Barbedienne

Paris, second half 19th century, depicting the orator and politician Demosthenes (384–322 BCE), and modeled after the circa 280 BCE original bronze work by the sculptor Polyeuktos, signed "F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR." to the base edge along with the "Reduction Mecanique A. Collas Brevete" pastille, underside stamped "T T" and incised "126" with ink inscriptions.
