Speck was a notable long rifle gunsmith who worked in Iredell County, also know as the upper Catawba Valley, North Carolina, during the 19th century. Born in 1805, he was part of a family of gunsmiths and continued the tradition of crafting long rifles. A notable design of Specks are the scrolled carvings of the forestock molding. A similar example can be found on page 246 of North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765-1865 (2010) by historian and author, Bill Ivey.



Overall good estate condition, tight and stable diagonal crack at the wrist on the right side, tight and stable crack at the toe, small area of missing wood sat the flintlock action, oxidation to iron and brass elements.
