Andrew Shunney (American, 1916-1978), Due East

Oil on canvas, signed at lower left, retaining label to verso, presented in a carved giltwood frame.

Stretcher size 16 x 24 in.; Frame dimensions 24 3/4 x 30 1/2 in.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Andrew Shunney studied at the Art Students League and with Diego Rivera in Mexico. After further studies in Paris and membership at the Salon d’Automne, he returned to Nantucket to pursue a career in painting. Shunney exhibited at the Lobster Pot Gallery, and Kenneth Taylor Galleries, and rented a studio on Straight Wharf. (Courtesy of the Artists Association of Nantucket.)
