Prentiss Taylor was born in Washington D.C. and studied at the Corcoran Gallery Art School and the Art Students League of New York. In 1931 he collaborated with author Langston Hughes in creating Golden Stair Press, printing and publishing broadsides and books. He frequently visited the South, documenting his experiences in sketches in lithographs.

Taylor received fellowships at the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. From 1942 to 1976 he was the president of the Society of Washington Printmakers. His work can be seen in the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and numerous others.

Very good condition, not examined outside the frame.
