A George III Shagreen Knife Box

Ca. 1800, shagreen veneer over pine, brass mounts, hinged lid opening to reveal a magenta velvet-lined interior with cutlery fittings.

General age wear to exterior with scattered chips, losses, and lifting to shagreen; wear to brass mounts; warping to lid, does not latch; fabric interior with staining, tears, and losses; back panel cracked with separation; scattered insect damage to wood concentrated at lower edge of back panel.
