Lucy Hunnicut began her career in painting in the 1980s after leaving her marriage and relocating to Florida, where she lived in a rural antique cabin. During a night in her new home, she decided to paint the people and places that surrounded her and supported her during that time. Eventually, she moved home to Alabama, where she continues to work. "These paintings come straight out of my heart, and when I work on them, I feel nothing but joy. I hope some of that feeling can find its way to you."
