Private Collection, Durham, North Carolina Peter Paone is a Philadelphia-born painter and printmaker known for his imaginative, symbolic, and psychologically rich artworks. Educated at the Philadelphia College of Art and trained at the Barnes Foundation, he developed a distinctive style that draws from memory and emotion. Paone’s work blends surrealism and symbolism, exploring themes of identity, transformation, and inner life.
He has received prestigious awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Louis Comfort Tiffany Grants, and accolades from the National Academy of Design. His career has included over 50 solo exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. His work is held in major institutions such as MoMA, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As an educator, he taught at Pratt Institute and founded the printmaking department at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he taught for decades.
