Early 19th century, watercolor and gouache on ivory, presented within an ebonized wood frame with gilt oval bezel and metal hanger, the larger rendered in grisaille of an officer in profile, attired in officer's jacket looking dexter and wearing hair in queue, eglomise matted glass, frame reverse with ink inscriptions " By / J. Andrews/ 1821" and "Blair 6 / Nov. 12, 21 / 63" (miniature 3 3/8 in.; frame dimensions 6 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.); the second of a lady, with piercing steel gray eyes, period styled hair and white dress, unsigned (miniature 2 1/2 in.; frame dimensions 5 5/8 x 4 in.).
From a Private Collection, Washington, D.C. Frames with wear and painted restoration; miniatures appear in good condition; male not examined out of the frame.
