Private Collection, Durham, North Carolina Maximino Javier is a celebrated Mexican artist known for his richly symbolic works that blend Latin American mythology with imaginative storytelling. Born in Valle Nacional, Oaxaca, he began as a self-taught artist and later studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Oaxaca. He co-founded the influential Taller de Artes Plásticas Rufino Tamayo in 1974.
His work, marked by magical realism, often features musicians, mythic creatures, and rural landscapes. Javier employs diverse media including engraving, oil, bronze, and ceramics. He has exhibited internationally across Mexico, the U.S., and Europe, and his works are held in major collections like the Museum of Modern Art San Francisco and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montevideo.
