From A Private Chapel Hill Collector

H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) was a writer from Providence, Rhode Island known for his contributions to the horror, fantasy, and weird fiction genres. He was an important supporter of and participant in amateur press publications during his career.

Vincent Starrett (1886-1974) was a writer best known for his book The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. He was a great admirer of Lovecraft's writing and both men contributed to the pulp magazine Weird Tales. Starrett was an important advocate for Lovecraft's work after his untimely death.

Condition varies with the majority very good. The Recluse wraps with toning, light creasing, grime, a few small damp stains, and chipped corners, the spine taped and with a few small tears; wraps present but now detached from stapled text block; the interior with expected toning and light handling wear, and with one hand-written correction to text. The remaining publications with mostly light handling and age wear such as toning, and mild creasing and edge wear; Lovecraft Collector no. 2 with some heavier wear including chipping, spotting, and soiling; Bacon's Essays with light chipping, staining, and spotting; In Memoriam with light scuffing and marks, staples rusted, two leaves slightly loose, mild spotting, and offsetting and staining from glued portrait. All very clean internally.
