Lot Details & Additional Photographs
In which the evidence-based mathematics of Archimedes and the theoretical approach of Speculativa seemingly vie with one another. On the lid each figure is seated on a low plinth inscribed with German text that states their position regarding their different approaches. Archimedes claims that his work is the foundation of math and Speculativa, while acknowledging his work, suggests there is more to accomplish via intuition.

The game consists of a hand-colored lid with two apertures over a two-compartment box. Within are a pair of identical paper wheels that spin, each with four numbers and four blank spaces. Either a number or a blank will show in an aperture once the wheel below stops spinning. Outside of the box are two wooden squares imitating the interior wheel configuration. Unfortunately, a key to understanding the game has not been found.

The box with lid is 1 in. tall
