Gottfrid Kallstenius was a Swedish painter and educator known for his serene, atmospheric landscapes. Born in Västervik, he initially studied medicine and humanities before shifting to art, and graduating from the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1888. He married fellow artist Gerda Roosval (1864-1939), and spent significant time in France, including in Le Pouldu and the artists’ colony at Grez-sur-Loing. Kallstenius also produced works for major public buildings in Stockholm, including murals and mosaics. He taught at the Royal Academy and authored several instructional books on oil painting techniques.
