Jean-Marie Melchior Doze was a French painter renowned for his religious artworks and contributions to Christian art in southern France. Trained under Numa Boucoiran and Hippolyte Flandrin, he created notable church decorations. Beyond painting, he served as an art educator, museum curator, and member of the Académie de Nîmes.
Melchior Doze painted these three scenes as studies for the paintings on the dome choir gallery in the Church of Our Lady of Sumène, Occitanie, France. This series of paintings, which Doze completed in 1889, are still present today.
