Xavier Pousa was born in Goián, Pontevedra, and began his studies under local painter Antonio Fernández. In 1950, Pousa moved to Madrid, enrolling in free drawing classes at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Museo de Reproducciones Artísticas. The following year, he entered the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.
Throughout his career, Pousa was deeply involved in the Galician artistic community. He was a founding member of the group "Os Artistiñas" and co-founded "Estampa Popular Galega," a collective aimed at promoting Galician art. He participated in various exhibitions and was a patron of the Museo de Castrelos in Vigo. Pousa traveled widely, painting across Europe, and between 1980 and 1984 traveled to Mexico, where he painted this work and exhibited at the Mexico City Landscape Biennial.
Pousa's work is characterized by its luminous landscapes, often depicting the rural and coastal scenes of Galicia, as well as still lifes and portraits. His paintings are held in numerous public and private collections, including museums across Galicia. In 1997, he was inducted into the Real Academia Galega de Bellas Artes.
